Recap From Student Night

On November 2nd we had our annual student night at the Helix Center located on University of Dayton’s Campus. The night was a success having right around 50 people in attendance including students, parents, and teachers from Centerville, Kettering Fairmont, and Chaminade Julienne.

First, Josh Cramer spoke about the SME in the student level and the job market in the future. Next, Ken Monnier spoke about Emerson Climate Technologies and the innovations they are doing with the Helix Center and then we broke into groups for a tour. This was very impressive.
20161102_182100We would like to thank everyone for helping to make this happen including: Josh Cramer from the SME, Ken Monnier and everyone at Emerson Climate Technologies for allowing us to use their facility.

The SME Dayton Student Night is an effort to promote Manufacturing Engineering as a viable career path for both high school & college age youth through STEM education. This year SME Dayton has gained access to the new Helix Research Center on the University of Dayton campus for this event.

Rajan Rajendran (VP Systems Innovation Center & Sustainability) will be the keynote speaker and will share the mission of the Helix Center and how it relates to advanced manufacturing. The opening keynote session will begin at 6:00p.

A speaker from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers will also do a presentation on the new high school student memberships in SME and the PRIME program.

Pizza and light refreshments will be available at this event.

The Helix Center is a development and research outreach by Emerson Electric Corporation and the University of Dayton. Over several years, UD and Copeland Corporation (Sidney, Ohio), now part of Emerson, have developed a strong relationship through UD’s College of Engineering. Copeland Corporation is one of the world leaders in manufacturing cooling and refrigeration components.  They were the first company to develop and market the “Scroll Compressor” for AC and refrigeration units. It is now the Gold Standard for these industries.

This event promises to offer many opportunities to speak with industry leaders and local resources in the area of manufacturing engineering. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn more about a promising career in manufacturing.

All attendees must be US citizens or be pre-aproved by Emerson Electric Corporation. Non-US citizens must supply background information prior to the event for approval by the trade compliance office.
